Moon Mother Hemp began with a cold January conversation, a hemp crop and an herbalist’s recipes. This is how it all came together.

January 2018
“I will grow hemp.”
The year was 2018, and Edward was talking with a friend on a cold winter night in January. The topic was hemp farming, still new back then, with only a handful of people doing it.
Edward had spent eight years in Colorado’s cannabis industry, and he could see it consolidating: more competition, heavier regulation and a crowded market. Before the night was over, he had made his decision. “I will grow hemp.”

Edward teamed up with Wyatt Barnes of Red Wagon Organic Farm, and together they grew one of the first certified organic hemp crops in the nation.
But a harvest was only one half of the equation.

While the first crop grew
Enter Jessica
Edward’s wife, Jessica, was inspired by the whole hemp plant and its place in traditional herbalism. She began formulating, blending botanicals and essential oils to pair with the hemp extract from the harvest to come later that year.
Over many weeks and months, she perfected the recipes that became our signature balms and topical collection, the same ones you’ll find in our shop today.
