At Moon Mother Hemp, we’re so grateful to our customers and our community for supporting us in our passion for cannabis, and it’s very important to us that we give back to the causes that we strongly believe in. We’re committed to supporting social equity reform in the cannabis industry, environmental causes and social justice organizations, both in our communities and worldwide. And of course, we had to do our part to help with the catastrophes that came with 2020. While our contributions included donating money and products, we also formed great partnerships and gave of our time and knowledge to help others in the cannabis industry. Read on to learn more about the organizations and work that’re important to us.
Social Equity Reform
We believe in being an active participant in social equity reform that began by the War on Drugs, which disproportionately affected black and brown communities. And we’re still seeing this injustice today. Incarcerations lead to the separation of families, barriers to housing, voting, child custody, employment and more. At Moon Mother Hemp, we believe in undoing these wrongs by supporting organizations that are working to promote national cannabis record expungement and cannabis businesses owned by people of color. To that end, we support the following organizations:
- Tokativity: A global cannabis community for women, focusing on empowering women and cannabis normalization.
- The Bail Project: They have a revolving bail fund to combat racial and economic disparities in the bail system.
- Equity First Alliance: An organization helping communities impacted by the War on Drugs through education, engagement, mobilization and justice.
- Last Prisoner Project: An organization dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform through three initiatives: clemency, expungement and reentry.
- Allyship & Weed Summit: A day of exploring cannabis through workshops and panels with the proceeds going to Movement for Black Lives.
- National Bail Out: Building a community-based movement to help those who have been harmed by incarceration through bail outs, building political communities and thought leadership.
- Expunge Colorado: Developing and supporting sustainable social enterprises to address and solve critical social problems within the cannabis community.
- National Expungement Week: Providing relief, equity and opportunity for communities who have been affected by the War on Drugs.
We’ve also partnered with the Color of Cannabis, an organization dedicated to increasing the number of minorities working in the cannabis industry. We have an open-door policy with the Color of Cannabis, so we’re here to mentor and be a resource for minorities in the cannabis space.
Environment
We have a passion for being environmentally responsible, and this comes out in our farming practices, organic ingredients, conscious packaging and a commitment to support organizations with a similar vision. In 2020, Moon Mother Hemp joined 1% for the Planet, a global organization that allows us to commit to giving back 1% of our annual profit to the environment. Through this partnership, we’ve chosen to be partnered with Earth Guardians, a company based here in Boulder, Colorado, with a global mission of focusing on the world’s youth, teaching them to create change through social, climate and environmental justice. We couldn’t think of a better partnership to align our goals.
Social Justice
At Moon Mother Hemp, we want to do our part to break the cycle of social injustice wherever we can. That’s why we choose to donate to organizations like the NDN Collective, who not only builds Indigenous power by working to get the land back that was stolen by our ancestors, but they also support and feed those who are protesting oil pipeline development. Another organization that we support is OUT Boulder, which supports Boulder County’s LGBTQ community.
Supporting Emergency Needs Locally and Across the Country
Another way in which we like to give back is to support those who are on the front lines of emergencies with product donations. Early in 2020, we donated over $11,000 in products to support medical front line workers across the country helping those fighting COVID-19. 2020 also saw the worst fires in Colorado’s history. During the summer, we donated over $9,000 in products to the firefighters fighting those catastrophic fires and protecting our communities, people and animals. While we obviously can’t stand to see these kinds of disasters, we feel blessed to be able to give back to help these causes.
Our Vision for 2021
As a company with a passion for social equity reform, environmental causes and social justice organizations, we’re committed to showing up again and again for our people and our planet. Our 2021 vision for giving back includes not only continuing to give monetarily, but also showing up as a team for meaningful volunteer work. One of the initial exciting volunteer projects we’re working on for 2021 is a collaboration with the Earth Guardians Youth Council on a series of panel talks around hemp as a true eco solution. We’ll be teaching the youth leaders about the benefits of replacing current materials with industrial hemp for textiles, paper and more. We’ll show these youth change makers real ways to get involved in these emerging and sustainable industries, current barriers and providing them with resources needed to get started. Stay tuned for more initiatives as we continue to create and collaborate!
